Impulse Lab What action do you need to observe? For the Impulse Lab, we needed to observe the object (cart) pushed against a 'wall'(force sensor). In order to do this, we will push the cart forward, toward the force sensor and will measure the amount of force the cart loses when hitting the sensor. What quantities do you need to measure?
We need to measure the velocity of the object (cart) as it interacts with the force sensor, the distance it traveled, and the force it exerted on the sensor.
What devices/equipment will you need to measure those quantities? In order to measure all these quantities, we will need a few things. We will need a force sensor, a ramp, a cart, and a motion sensor to track the carts movement.
Narrative: When conducting the experiment, we pushed the cart forward, also activating the motion sensor in order to follow the cart. Once pushed, the cart moved down the track toward the awaiting force sensor where it made contact, the energy transferring before the cart bounced away, the leftover energy bringing it back toward the sensor.
